The basic concept for UrbanReadiness.com had been in development for several years, but creators Kyle and Greg had no idea they would be collaborating at the end of 2010 to launch a website devoted to urban life preparedness. Kyle and Greg, both residents of an urban environment, recognized a need for prearedness, self-reliance and sustainability resources specific to the urban resident. While most survival resources focus on wilderness and other potentially hostile environments, few of them direct attention to the environment in which over half of the world's population dwell: The Urban Environment. Additionally, Kyle and Greg have different views on religion, politics and economics. Depsite these differences, they share a passion and belief in the preparedness movement. It is the goal of this website to demonstrate that people from all walks of life can adopt a lifestyle consistent with freedom, independence and self-reliance. We hope you will find the information presented on our site useful, practical and relatively free from political rhetoric.
One of the many reasons we started this project, is that we have made many expensive mistakes in our preparations over the years. We hope to take some of the guesswork out of planning for an uncertain future, so that you can decrease wasted purchases and impulse spending. We hope that our checklists, guides and articles will help you develop your readiness plan and reach your readiness goals more efficiently, without wasting a lot of resources and money in the process. Increasing your readiness, preparing for an uncertain future, and decreasing your dependence on a fragile infrastructure can be a considerable investment of your time and money. Our system is designed to minimize the haphazard collection of "stuff," and help keep you on track to realizing your readiness goals.
Kyle grew up in the woods of central Michigan, during the generation where children were told to “go outside.” His childhood activities formed the healthy respect for nature that continues to this day. Not wanting to be stuck inside, Kyle joined the United States Navy right after high school and was able to see how different cultures lived throughout the world. College started in environmental biology, however soon turned towards law enforcement, Kyle’s current profession. Kyle believes that God has provided all that we need in this life. He has given Kyle the desire to learn more about being self-sufficient and to share this knowledge with others. Kyle believes that all people should prepare (physically, mentally and spiritually) and not rely on any other person or entity to make sure their everyday needs are met. Through preparedness, we can endure anything together as a society.
Greg grew up in Michigan with an interest preparedness and a thirst for knowledge. From a young age he was fascinated with wilderness survival, learning as much as he could about being ready for any situation and decreasing his dependence on others. His college path eventually drew him to law enforcement, his current career. With firsthand experience in dealing with emergencies and everyday situations of varying scope and scale, Greg saw the fragile nature of his nation's infrastructure, and the reality of its governments' abilities to respond to such situations. Greg believes that people have the ultimate responsibility for themselves, and should be reasonably prepared for the things life throws at them. While it is true that no one can be totally prepared for every possible situation, a basic level of preparedness and readiness is essential to one's quality of life and protection of the freedoms we enjoy.
